One thing before you go
If you take nothing else from the PDF, take this: the single-letter shortcuts only work when Commands Keyboard Focus is on. Click the small a–z button at the top right of the Edit window, or press Cmd+Opt+1 on Mac, Ctrl+Alt+1 on Windows.
With it off, half the keyboard does nothing and it looks like something is broken. It's the single most common Pro Tools frustration there is.
Prefer something for a MacBook? The silicone keyboard covers carry the same layout and protect the keys at the same time.

Two shortcuts a week is roughly the rate they stick. If you're not sure where to start, learn D, F and G — fade from start, crossfade with no dialog, fade out to end. Three fades without ever opening a window, and they'll save you more time than anything else on the list.
