DJI has officially announced a pre-launch event for a new imaging device, with the teaser page labelled “Square Up, Nail the Move” and a date set for 18 November 2025 at 12 pm (GMT). (DJI Official)

Although DJI is tight-lipped about what exactly is being launched, the teaser visuals and messaging strongly suggest this is a major new handheld camera — likely a fresh entry in their action/hand-held camera line, perhaps next in their “Osmo Action” family. The category is listed as “Handheld Imaging Devices”. (DJI Official)

What might this new camera look like?

From the teaser, we can make a few educated guesses:

  • The “square up” tagline, coupled with subtle imagery, suggests a compact, perhaps squarer-bodied design. It may move away from the tall ‘stick’ action-camera shape and instead adopt a more block-style form with better ergonomics.

  • The teaser image appears to show a circular iris or closing-type aperture over the lens. That hints at more advanced optics and light control than typical action cams. This could mean the device offers better low light performance, adjustable aperture or ND-filter style behaviour built in.

  • If indeed the new device belongs in the “Osmo Action” lineage, one might expect rugged features (waterproofing, shock resistance) combined with upgraded video specs — perhaps higher frame-rates, 4K/8K capture, perhaps HDR or log-profile options aimed at creators rather than purely casual use.

  • The optics hint suggests DJI may have improved the lens quality (less fisheye distortion, better clarity, possibly variable field-of-view) and perhaps added a mechanical iris or ND filter rather than purely electronic control. That would mark a significant step up for creators who edit, colour-grade or use stabilised footage.

  • Given DJI’s ecosystem, we might also expect good integration with their apps, mobile-control features, maybe built-in gimbal or stabiliser improvements; perhaps a touchscreen front/back, brighter display for outdoor visibility, and robust connectivity (e.g., WiFi 6, USB-C, maybe even HDMI out for creators)

Why this matters for editing professionals

At Editors Keys we’re all about streamlining creative workflows — and this kind of camera could slot beautifully into a mobile-production or hybrid-production setup. Imagine capturing ultra-stable, high-quality footage on location with a compact device, then importing into editing software (e.g., Final Cut, Premiere) with minimal fuss. With an advanced aperture and better optics, you’ll have cleaner footage, better dynamic range and higher-quality source-material for colour grading and post-work.

For our users who also produce audio-visual content, this means you might not need bulky mirror-less cameras for certain shoots — a compact DJI unit could handle B-roll, behind-the-scenes footage, or even main-footage for smaller scale projects — quickly and cost-effectively. Then the footage pairs with your editing keyboard or shortcut cover from Editors Keys to speed up the post-workflow.

What to look for and when

In the meantime, we’ll keep an eye on possible leaks and specifications. As soon as DJI reveals full details, we’ll bring you an in-depth breakdown (and if appropriate, how it interfaces with editing workflows). Stay tuned.

If you’re a creator or editor looking to upgrade your capture gear, this one might be worth waiting for — especially if you value compactness + high image quality + edit-friendly footage.
